Geospatial Asset Preview Settings (Tiles & Terrain)

When you preview geospatial assets such as 3D Tiles, MVT, GeoJSON, or CZML in the CMS, you choose the tiles and the terrain used for the map in these settings. Tiles are the imagery shown as the map, and terrain is the elevation surface that gives the map its relief.

These settings are on the Settings screen in the workspace’s left menu. They are not shown in the left menu while a project is open. They are a different screen from Workspace Settings in the same left menu, and from the Settings screen each project has.

The tiles used as the map’s imagery. This setting holds a list of the tiles in use. You can register more than one set of tiles in the list, and the first one is used as the default.

Each entry in the list has one of the following six types.

  • Google Satellite
  • Google Road Map
  • OpenStreetMap
  • NASA Black Marble
  • Japan GSI Standard Map
  • URL

For an entry whose type is URL, you specify the following yourself.

  • Name
  • URL: the tile URL template. Specify a form that contains {z}, {x}, and {y}. A web page URL or an image URL is not shown as tiles
  • Image URL: the icon image shown for this option

The elevation surface that gives the map its relief. Terrain can be switched on or off. When it is on, this setting holds a list of the terrain in use. You can register more than one entry in the list, and the first one is used as the default.

Each entry in the list has one of the following two types.

  • Re:Earth Terrain
  • Cesium Ion

For an entry whose type is Cesium Ion, you specify the following yourself.

  • Name
  • Terrain Cesium Ion asset ID
  • Terrain Cesium Ion access token
  • Terrain URL: when you enter this URL, the terrain is loaded from it. When you leave it empty, the terrain is loaded from the Terrain Cesium Ion asset ID and access token
  • Image URL: the icon image shown for this option
